General Bean FAQ

What are magic beans?

Magic message beans, otherwise known as the “Jack Bean” (Canavalia ensiformis) are a common legume. They grow quite quickly and once they outgrow their tin can be replanted into your garden and grow up to 1 metre in height! They produce gorgeous pink/purple flowers and large bean pods which contain white beans of their own – not so magic though, as they are not specially engraved!

Can they be eaten?

The young pods and beans produced from a grown magic bean can be eaten if cooked, however the intended use for the product is for decorative purposes.

How long do they last?

Unplanted they last up to 2 years if kept in a cool dry place. Once planted they last for around 2 weeks in the tin, and can then be replanted in your garden where they will continue to grow larger and larger and even grow lovely flowers.
